Event for April 2026
Hi orchid lovers!
For the month of April we will not be having a meeting on the third Wednesday evening at The King of Glory Church. This is because the Annual Show on the 18th and 19th is taking it’s place.
The show theme this year is Orchids of the World.
This is our 42nd Annual Orchid Show and Sale and the biggest event of the year.
Of course we depend upon all of you to bring your beautiful blooming orchids for the show display, on Friday April 17th around 4:00 pm.
Prepare your orchids for display so that they are ribbon worthy, with beautiful blooms, shiny leaves and NO BUGS. The more blooming plants that are entered, the better the show.
You’ll need to fill out entrance tags for each orchid you enter. Please come prepared with the name of the plant and its parentage if at all possible. There will be people there to help you fill out your tags as needed.
Of course we will need lots of assistance with other jobs.
Some of the areas are; on the afternoon of Friday the 17th, help is needed with setting up and decorating the show display area including plant containers and cut flowers. Please be at the hotel about 2:30 pm.
On the morning of the 18th help is needed for clerking and with orchid judging. Someone will be there to assist you with this. This is where you get to learn what makes a ribbon worthy bloom.
On the 18th and 19th help is needed in the raffle area with aiding people to buy and fill out raffle tickets. Assistance is also needed for packing up sold plants.
On the 19th help is needed with setting up the potluck area for everybody working at the show. On the 19th support is needed with packing up and packing out after the show. Assistance is needed in other areas also.
Some classes that will be presented on Saturday at the show are; orchid expert and world wide traveler, Patricia Harding will do a presentation about Eco-tourism and what effect climate change is having on orchids in their natural habitat.
Chris Thomas will talk about basic orchid care.
On Sunday Fred Smith will demonstrate how to repot orchids.
In the sales area:
Our TVOS club will be selling a wide variety of orchids from four different venders, we’ll also be selling fertilizers and Orchiata potting mix.
Individual TVOS members will also bring their plants to sell. Janet Crist will be selling orchids from her greenhouse.
NEON will be selling charcoal, clay balls, natural bug and fungus killer.
Nick Roberts will be selling supplies and carnivorous plants from his greenhouse. Nicks’ friends will be selling handmade ceramic pots and gluten free baked goods. Fred’s sister Barbara will be selling orchid aprons, bags and a wide variety of other handmade items.
PLEASE NOTE
A plant doesn’t have to look perfect, just the blooms are judged. Lots of plants are normally awarded.
You do not have to be a TVOS member to enter your orchids.
Please remember to sign up for bringing a dish for the potluck. If you bring a large amount please divide it into several smaller square or rectangle containers due to limited counter space. The extra containers will be put in the refrigerator or a cooler.
New this year; we are encouraging people to make small terrariums for display. Included in them could be miniature orchids, air plants, carnivorous plants, succulents and bromeliads. The orchids will be included in the orchid judging.

Arrangements for all events for the rest of the year are not completely finalized yet. When each date gets closer, details will be added to this website and an email will be sent out to TVOS members.
